Our program builds a strong foundation for English by starting with its most fundamental building block: the alphabet. By teaching students phonics, or the pronunciation of letters, we give students a detailed, anatomical view of words, which grows into an intuitive understanding as we then teach students to read and write their own sentences and short stories. Our students learn to read efficiently, spell correctly, speak confidently, and write both grammatically and creatively.
From 2:30-3:30, Kindergarten -2nd graders done with homework will participate in gaining thematic knowledge each week, with books, reading comprehension activities, craft ideas, and games to use fun and laughter as a way for students to explore the real world. Some samples of topics could be “Animal Month” with weeks focused on different habitats like “Ocean Week” or “Jungle Week.” You can look forward to some cute projects and crafts that your children will be able to take home, or suddenly realize that they know exactly how many miles away we are from the moon! For 1st and 2nd graders, we will also be covering simple Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension assignments during this time too.
Students in Singapore perform notably better in math compared to U.S. students, thanks to their innovative curriculum. While other learning centers stick to conventional approaches—where students copy example problems, practice repetitively, and then move onto the next lesson (forgetting much of the previous lesson)—we use the Singapore Math curriculum.
Singapore Math uses a Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) approach. Students are introduced to a concept with a concrete classroom activity, then see the idea visually, and finally grasp it on an abstract level. Furthermore, Singapore Math focuses on connecting lessons within and across subjects. What results is a far more engaged, nuanced, and fuller understanding of the math concepts taught.
At Genius, we prepare students to excel by teaching them the material from one grade level ahead, thereby giving them a head start on the next schoolyear’s material.
We primarily teach students to recognize Chinese characters and use pinyin to support teaching. By focusing on characters, students learn to avoid relying on pinyin, which can commonly lead students to mix spelling with English words. Furthermore, this Chinese learning process helps students recognize Chinese for its practicality in society and everyday use. Students will begin to recognize both traditional and simplified characters. All lessons contain a combination of styles, challenging traditional students to read simplified but write traditionally and vice-versa. This process gives our students a dual advantage and makes Genius Academy’s Chinese program a wise choice.
Children will travel under the sea and into space, around the real world and to lands limited only by the author’s imagination while listening to stories read by their teacher, and reading aloud to each other. Retelling stories orally, acting them out and drawing pictures can increase children’s comprehension skills as well as vocabulary usage without them even realizing it!
Did you know the number one fear among adults is public speaking? We can help your child conquer that fear! The ability to competently speak in front of others in an important trait needed in the classroom, in the work place, and in social arenas. Your student will learn to be more comfortable in front of an audience, speak with expression and clarity, and prepare for a performance.
Teaching Garage is the creator of the first and only digital elementary STEM curriculum. It introduces various fields of engineering including software, civil, and agricultural. Our goal is to inspire all students to see themselves as future leaders in all areas of engineering industries. Through project-based learning, students will design and create projects to solve real-world problems.
Our Chinese classes are packed with hands-on activities and interactive group projects that immerse students in the rich language and culture of China. From reciting classic Taoist poems to eating Zongzi for the Dragon Boat Festival, students get a personal, sensory experience of Chinese history, art, culture, and language. Through doing organized social activities and working with classmates in Chinese, students also develop their fluency in speaking and expand their reading and writing vocabulary.
