Genius Academy Reading Comprehension & Vocabulary Program (1st to 6th Grade)

Our reading comprehension curriculum focuses on teaching children to read both fiction and non-fiction passages and then answer comprehension questions. We provide students the tools to tackle the new common core aligned standards, decode passages, find the main idea, and comprehend the underlying meaning.

The vocabulary portion teaches students not only new words, but new meanings to words with which they already are familiar. There is an element in each lesson that allows the student to see the words in action and to use them in answering comprehension questions as well.

Elementary English

English K-1

Most classrooms have only a little time to spend working on grammar which is a building block of written and spoken language. Our program encourages children to learn all the basics of grammar and build on any writing mechanics they have already absorbed. Students will learn how to write personal narratives, descriptive writing, how-to articles, persuasive writing, expository writing, as well as creative writing. We always find fun projects with real-life situations to incorporate every writing style and encourage students to be more effective writers. We help our students see how writing can be usable, practical, and quite enjoyable when they know how to do it well!

English 2-3

The goal of our 2nd and 3rd grade English program is to encourage students to be confident in their English ability by continuing to provide a solid foundation of grammar and writing skills. For most students these classes may be their first real introduction to grammar and writing strategies. Our English curriculum helps our students to read comprehensively, write creatively, and speak fluently.

English 4-6

As your child prepares to enter Middle School, making sure that he or she is properly prepared in Language Arts is vital for the next stage of their academic career. At Genius Academy, our 4th through 6th grade English classes focus on building and strengthening a solid foundation in the Language Arts to help your child’s transition to middle school and beyond.

Elementary Math

The Math program primarily focuses on strengthening logical thinking as a priority. Our program utilizes challenging problems and exercises as a basis to enrich our student’s mathematical ability. Each class follows a strict curriculum that exposes students to essential math topics. Our comprehensive practice material reinforces the lecture material and ensures students understand the material rather than just memorizing steps.

Saxon Math Program- Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

Our kindergarten through 2nd grade math classes utilize Saxon Math curriculum. Saxon Math develops new concepts through hands-on activities that actively engage students in the learning process. Every lesson is aligned with state Common Core standards. Concepts are developed, reviewed, and practiced over time so students are more likely to remember what they’ve learned.

Accelerated Math Program: Leaping a Year Ahead- 3rd Grade through 6th Grade

3rd through 6th Grade (Pre-Algebra)

The goal of our 3rd to 6th grade math program is to not only reinforce concepts students are currently learning at their school but to also give them a head start on next year’s curriculum. Each math lesson is designed to be flexible so students of any math level can be encouraged or challenged. Students learn to take good notes, solve relevant real-world word problems, and complete common-core aligned test problems.

Introduction to Math Olympiad

With a shift in focus from completing math exercises to solving math word problems, the ability for students to solve these seemingly confusing tasks has become more important than ever! Using the Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS(R)) as a guide, the students are provided experience with using various problem solving methods to help lay the foundation for these brilliant problem solvers of the future.

Elementary Chinese

We primarily teach students to recognize Chinese characters and use pinyin to support teaching. By focusing on characters, students learn to avoid relying on pinyin, which can commonly lead students to mix spelling with English words. Furthermore, this Chinese learning process helps students recognize Chinese for its practicality in society and everyday use. Students will begin to recognize both traditional and simplified characters. All lessons contain a combination of styles, challenging traditional students to read simplified but write traditionally and vice-versa. This process gives our students a dual advantage and makes Genius Academy’s Chinese program a wise choice.
