Our 7th Grade Language Arts classes will include the following and will be adjusted by grade level. All of the following components are necessary to start preparing for topic:

• Reading Comprehension
• Learn strategies to analyze structure of passages
• Vocabulary
• Grammar
• Writing
• Literature

Students will learn the fundamental components of grammar, including the parts of speech, diagramming, and understanding how a sentence is formed. Because grammar is not explicitly taught in most public schools, this class is critical for middle school students, since it is also tested on the SAT. A strong understanding of grammars often reflected in excellent writing, as it reinforces a student’s understanding of language.

During the writing portion of the class, students will be exposed to different styles of writing including personal narratives, descriptive writing, persuasive writing, research essays, and creative writing. Many middle schoolers have difficulty expressing their thoughts clearly, therefore our classes will focus on teaching students how to plan out a paper before they write it. In addition, classes will practice the skills needed to be a good writer, including finding exact words, revising sentences, and improve sentence structure.

Also known as math 7 in Cupertino middle schools, pre-algebra provides the foundations in algebra, geometry, and problem solving that is needed for success in more advanced courses. Students will be introduced to new material such as functions, prime factorization, inequalities and the Pythagorean Theorem.

Algebra 1 is frequently known as the gatekeeper subject. The course is used in many professions and is the first in a series of higher-level math classes students need in order to succeed in college and life. Students transition from concrete arithmetic to the symbolic language of algebra, allowing the development of abstract reasoning skills necessary to excel in math and science. Students will be introduced to new concepts such as factoring, algebraic proofs, and quadratic equations.

The ability to competently speak in front of others is an important trait needed in the classroom, in the workplace, and in social arenas. Your student will learn to be more comfortable in front of an audience, speak with expression and clarity, and prepare for a performance.

At Genius Academy, our Journalism Club is a perfect blend of educational learning and fun! Our team of Editors-in-Chief guides students as they write about topics of interest, illustrate their articles, and help design the final newsletter. It is then published for parents and peers to read— a proud accomplishment for all of the club members!

As students reach middle school, they often encounter hardships that are never remedied because they don’t know how to fix them! Individual counseling is a perfect time to get to know each child; it allows us to advise and help your children discover their strengths to conquer their weaknesses. Whether it’s an academic, attitude/behavior, or organizational problems, our counselors will help keep track of each child’s progress, teaching the skills to help them succeed both inside and outside of school.

Success in school and even in life requires good study habits and organizational skills. In high school and especially college, students will be expected to be able to balance their academics and activities. This class will focus on providing students with different approaches to organizing all the information they will learn in school as well as develop effective time management strategies.
